This is amazing. I think Sister Sutherland followed Dad around all summer with her camera to make this. If you have ever worked at the ranch, or wondered what my dad does to make the place run, you will enjoy this. Also there are pictures of family that were here for the 4th mixed in... see if you are in it. Also she used pictures others have taken, so maybe one of your shots are in here. It is a bit long... like 15 minutes, but it is really good! My father is an amazing man. Such a hard worker and a wonderful example. I am glad that someone else took the time to appreciate all that he does.
Thanks J for spending so much time converting this for me so that I can share it!
Life is full of extraordinary things. This blog is my way to share how I have seen them, either through word, or more often, picture. Do you ever wonder what the world has in store, or what life might bring to you next?

Since we have had the cats we have not had to use our flyswatter. Here is a clip of Fritz. There is a moth out side the glass door.
Cape Disappointment
We had another great weekend. My parents are on vacation working their way down the cost. They asked if we wanted to meet them at Cape Disappointment near Long Beach for a little weekend camping. J is in the middle of a two week sheet metal class right now so he works mornings and has real weekends (Sat. Sun.) off! We had a wonderful time and took lots of pictures as always... as you can see. Remember you can click on the pictures to enlarge them.
First thing we did Sat. morning was walk down to the beach there at the Cape Disappointment State Campground. By the way, it is called Cape Disappointment because John Meares was trying to find the mouth of the Columbia River but could not locate it. There is also a Dismal Nitch where I guess Lewis and Clark had a bad winter.
Next we walked to the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse, but along the way we found an old bunker that was covered in ivy and we stopped to take pictures at. This next one is Cape Disappointment Lighthouse.

Here is a funny little story. You can all laugh at how blonde I am. As we were driving along highway 101 on our way to the campground I saw a sign marking the Lewis and Clark trail. On the sign is the silhouette of the two men and one of them is pointing. Well I turned my head to see what he was pointing at... nothing of course, it is just a marker sign. To make it even more embarrassing, I did it again later! Very blonde of me I know. So when we were at the visitors center and mom wanted to take a picture of us by the sign (something I did not really want to do) we all decided to make light of my little blunder.
From there we went to the North Head Lighthouse. In just the short amount of time It took us to drive about five miles the fog started to roll in. On our walk there I got this pictures of Mom and Dad.
And here is the North Head Lighthouse. If you can't tell I really like lighthouses.
I also got pictures of Mom and Dad by the other buildings that were there.
Dad was very photogenic that day.
From the North Head Lighthouse we went into the town of Long Beach. We had hot dogs, ice cream and flew the kite on the beach. Here are a few more pictures.
That one was out the car window so it is a little crooked. I don't know how to rotate picts on this computer.
Someone had a really neat kite of a flag out on the beach.
Leaving the beach there was a neat dune bug. There were some funny signs in Long Beach. Mom has informed me that goobers are peanuts...I had NO idea.
Saturday night we were on our way back into Long Beach for dinner and we stopped by a beach so I could get a picture of the North Head Lighthouse when it was on, but it was SO windy that I could not hold the camera still enough at that low aperture. I guess I we will just have to go back so I can try again.
One more little funny story. At dinner I ordered chicken fettuccine alfredo, but when they brought it to me the chicken was not cooked at all, so I told the waitress and they took it back. It is amazing how nice people are when they accidentally try to kill you. I got a new plate of food, which they comped, and when I asked for a container to take it home in they brought me a real sturdy plastic container instead of the Chinese take out boxes everyone else was getting. The lady was super nice too! Last thing, I know this is long! A little shout out of thanks to Jenn for looking up directions to the Long Beach branch building Sat at 11:45pm! We made it there just fine, your directions were great!

Saturday we went fishing at Devil's lake. On my first cast I caught a fish but it bit my hook off. I did land one trout that was about 12 inches. I thought it was big until K caught his 18 incher! Here is a picture of K holding up all our fish. His is the biggest one.
It was a great day. That little lake is so beautiful. There were eagles flying around all day. I was able to get a few pictures, but noting great. Here is one of the better ones.
Well we had a great weekend and it was good to see the family, but after being gone so much it is really nice to be home too!
Another Labor Day at The Ranch
Here is a not-so-quick run down of all that has been happening. Thursday the 28th I worked in the morning then beat it home to pick up my luggage and have J drive me to the airport. I flew standby to SeaTac where Mom picked me up and took me to Chinatown in Seattle where I had a Shiatsu massage from an amazing little old man named George Beppu. When I was done I felt like I had been exercising because of the way I could feel my blood flowing, but without all the strain or the raised heart rate. It was a neat experience. We then headed for the ranch. It was Labor Day weekend, and I figured Dad could use some help with the annual single adult activity. They were planning on having 1500 people there but I think only 850 actually showed up. The weather was a bit cold. Anyway, all weekend I was at the barn before 8am, just like the good old days. Mom and I were in charge of the paperwork for the trail rides. Sunday we went to the Cle Elum branch for church, and it is always nice to go back for a visit. Brother Litchfield even gave the Sunday school lesson. He is my all time favorite teacher, right up there with Sister P. Then Sunday evening we joined the singles for their fireside, which was very good. Oh, I should throw in this little story for all the ranch staff that has ever worked Labor day. While waiting for the fireside to start, Dad and I were sitting down and a man walked up to me and said, "I am looking for a tall blonde!" I was so taken off guard I choked out a little laugh and said, "Oh really?" Fortunately he did not stick around. I turned to Dad and we had a good little laugh and come up with a few things I should have said. Like, "You and my husband have something in common then." Ahhhh what would a Labor Day weekend at the ranch be without some old creepy guy hitting on you? So Monday after the rides were over at noon I went into Cle Elum and had a reflexology appointment with a friend of ours. Again it was a totally relaxing and a neat experience. When I got back from that, my cousin Mindy and I went for a ride. It was absolutely beautiful out and we even got to ride across the river. I had a wonderful time getting to know my cousin better also. By Monday evening the property was totally empty of patrons so we got to have the whole place to ourselves. I have to say that with the shiatsu massage, the reflexology, and the horse back riding, I was feeling pretty darn good. But then again, I never feel better than when I am on a horse. So back to my slow moving story. That evening was the last night that most of the staff was going to be there so Mom and Dad did a steak dinner for the staff that I was invited to. After a scrumptious dinner the staff did a FHE where everyone had a chance to share something about the summer. Two of the boys did a rap about the ranch that was as good as anything that the staff came up with while I was working there. Several poems were read, and Sister Sutherland showed a video that she made of Dad doing a bunch of different things around the ranch. If I can get a copy of it I will try to post it too. It was outstanding! So Tuesday morning, Mom took me back over to the airport for me to fly home in time for J to pick me up before he went to work. Oh, funny thing, I saw my mother and sister in laws at the security point at the airport. What a small world! So I was finally home, and besides work, was able to relax... but just for two days. I will write another post about what has happened since then.
